COMMUNITY RESPONSE ACTIONS TO REDUCE TEENAGE PREGNANCIES IN BUSOGA AND WEST-NILE
Teenage Pregnancy

Managing the scourge of teenage pregnancy

In the Busoga and West Nile regions of Uganda, the cycle of teenage pregnancy casts a long shadow over the futures of two children: the pregnant teenager and her unborn child.

The physical, emotional, and social consequences of early motherhood can derail a young girl’s education, limit her economic opportunities, and impact her overall well-being. Simultaneously, the unborn child faces increased risks of premature birth, low birth weight, and other health complications.

Ecov Uganda‘s “Community Response to Stop Teenage Pregnancy” project is a beacon of hope, working tirelessly to break this cycle and empower young people to make informed choices about their sexual and reproductive health.

Advocacy for sustainable livelihoods.

We continue to advocate for policies that protect children’s rights and promote their well-being, expanding our livelihood programs to reach more families with children in need.

Prevention

The project aims to prevent teenage pregnancies by strengthening communities and government structures, promoting the rights of girls, and providing comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education.

Reintegration

The project works to reintegrate teenage mothers into society and education services by providing maternal and child care, improving access to healthcare and justice systems, and offering alternative education and skills opportunities.

Capacity Building

The project enhances the capacity of local Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to address teenage pregnancy and other social injustices by improving their corporate governance and providing technical and digital skills.
